In patch 11.21, we’re disabling /all chat in matchmade queues.

With the upcoming 11.21 patch Riot will be disabling /all chat in all matchmade queues.

While most of the team’s focus around behavioral systems in 2021 has been on gameplay-based behaviors like AFKing and inting, verbal abuse has been a rising problem this year. The team is working on a number of changes to systemically address this at both League and Riot levels, and with that, a direct change to disable /all chat in matchmade queues is going to be shipped alongside patch 11.21.

While /all chat can be the source of fun social interaction between teams, as well as some good-hearted banter, right now negative interactions outweigh the positives.

All chat is the only thing being disabled. Enemies will still be able to hear and see our emotes and champ masteries, as well as all the CTRL animations. End of the game chat will remain cross-team. Allied chat will still be in the game.

Riot believes it’s worth cutting down the growing negativity all chat has been creating, while the majority of the player base dislikes the changes. The options to mute your opponents still exist, so the players think it’s better to just add a client-side option to automatically mute the opponents at the beginning of the match.
